Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! This blog will unfortunately be my last as the semester is coming to an end soon. Thank you to everyone that have been reading my blog and supporting me through this. To finish off this series of blogs, I’m going to be talking about some of the best and most well-known shops in Richmond, VA, the general area I’m from. Richmond has a very big tattoo and piercing scene which is why many of these shops are located fairly close together.
What makes this shop special: All of the artists that work at this shop are female and are known to be welcoming a space. This shop also does walk-in tattoos every day of the week where most shops only do them on weekends.
Location: 17 N Belmont Ave, Richmond, VA 23221
What I’ve gotten done here: I was a walk-in here and got my upper arm tattoo done here.
What this shop is known for: Aside from being an all-female shop and doing walk-ins every day, this shop is also well known for being a safe space for all people. They also specialize in nature designs and anime tattoos.
What makes this shop special: It’s on the second floor of a building and doesn’t look like your typical tattoo shop.
Location: 3202 W Cary St #201, Richmond, VA 23221
What I’ve gotten done here: Back in 2018, I got my first two tattoos on my forearm and wrist here.
What this shop is known for: This shop is known to do a lot of larger scale tattoos like sleeves or back pieces. They also host a lot of guest artists.
What makes this shop special: In addition to doing tattoos, this shop is one of the few in Richmond that also does piercings.
Location: 1800 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23220
What this shop is known for: Aside from doing tattoos and piercings, this shop is known to do a lot of black and grey and realism tattoos. One thing they are really known for is the Friday the 13th specials on tattoos and piercings that they do.
What makes this shop special: Like Lucky 13, River City is another tattoo shop that also does piercings. They also have many locations around central Virginia including one in the Chesterfield Towne Center that also does tattoos and piercings.
Location: 1128 N Arthur Ashe Blvd, Richmond, VA 23230
What I’ve gotten done here: While I’ve never gotten a tattoo here, I’ve gotten almost all of my piercings from two of their locations.
What this shop is known for: They are known to do a lot of American Traditional tattoos, do piercings, and to have many locations around central Virginia.
What makes this shop special: They are known to do walk-ins on Saturdays and get booked those days very quickly.
Location: 3035 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221
What this shop is known for: This shop is known mainly for black and grey work and their Saturday walk ins.
What makes this shop special: The owner and one of the artist’s, Jesse Smith, competed on the show Ink Master in a few different seasons.
Location: 3313A W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221
What this shop is known for: This shop is mainly known for larger new school pieces since that’s Smith’s specialty.
Bonus:
What makes this shop special: Of the two shops in Farmville, this one is by far better with a wide range of artists and their specialties.
Location: 815 E 3rd St, Farmville, VA 23901
What I’ve gotten done here: I’ve gotten three of my tattoos done here by two different artists. The artist that did my hip tattoo no longer works there but, the artist that did my back and ankle ones is still there and he is my go-to artist.
Once again, thank you to everyone that has continued to read my blog and be active on my social media accounts through this semester. I appreciate everyone’s support throughout this blog.
