Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! Thank you guys so much for sticking with me this whole time. This week’s blog is all about getting your first tattoo. I’m going to be covering everything you need to know before getting your first tattoo.
Make sure the design is exactly you want
One thing I made sure was that my first tattoo was perfect! My first tattoo has a lot of personal meaning to me, so I needed it to be perfect. I also wasn’t sure if I’d want another tattoo after this one since I didn’t know what to expect or how bad it was going to hurt (nowhere as bad as I thought). Remember this tattoo is permanent so, you want it to be something you will love forever. Not every tattoo can be covered and laser removal is painful, expensive, and time consuming. Getting a tattoo that you want and love is the best option.
Eat beforehand
You may be nervous and not feel like eating or drinking anything before your first tattoo but, make sure you do. The experience will be worse if you don’t, you can be more uncomfortable or lightheaded and you could possibly pass out. This website goes into more detail about why and what you should eat before your tattoo appointment.
Yes, tattoos are addictive!
I was convinced that they couldn’t be that addictive like I had been told. They are painful so why would you crave more? Oh, but you do! You get what I like to call the “tattoo itch” where you start craving another tattoo like you need your next ink fix. You will start planning your next one shortly after your last one is finished.
It won’t hurt as much as you think
Tattoos aren’t painless by any means but, personally I think that they don’t hurt as much as you go into the appointment thinking they will. People always ask me if my tattoos hurt and the way I describe it to them is that it feels like a cat really scratching you. I always go into a tattoo thinking it will hurt more than it actually does. Depending on how long the tattoo you are getting takes, you can almost get used to the pain and you don’t feel the pain anymore.
Follow the aftercare instructions
Every tattoo artist has their own aftercare instructions that they find work best for the tattoos they do. Follow their specific instructions! Don’t follow instructions you find on the Internet or from friends or family. Your artist knows the aftercare that works best for their tattoos. Usually aftercare involves some type of unscented hand soap and lotion to help it heal. Getting a tattoo leaves a minor wound in your skin so it needs to be taken care of properly to heal.
One of my favorite YouTubers talking about first tattoo do's and don't's:
Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog! I wanted to make sure to write next week’s blog during Breast Cancer Awareness Month because it is all about how tattoos can be used to help people heal and feel better about themselves.
