Writer's picture: Ashley RebehnAshley Rebehn

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog and to my new readers, welcome! This week we are talking all about some of the most well-known tattoo artists in the industry. There are so many notable artists past and present but, I’m writing about some of the more present famous artists that I personally like.

Ryan Ashley

Ryan Ashley is personally one of my favorite artists to ever compete on Ink Master. I would love to get a tattoo in her style by her one day. Before she started tattooing, Ashley got a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Fashion

Design and went on to in New York City as a fashion designer for a few years before

picking up a tattoo machine (Source). Her background in fashion design really shows in the realistic, fashion forward style of tattooing that she is known for. She specializes in fine line black and grey but, she has her own special twist to the style that is so detailed and unique. She primarily does jewels and jewelry tattoos in this ornate style and uses white ink to add highlights. That little touch really helps her art stand out and make the tattoo that much more realistic. She also does some incredibly intricate lace tattoos, as well. She is currently tattooing out of Elysium Studios in Grand Junction, CO.

Kat Von D

You may know the name Kat Von D from her namesake makeup line but, she is also a huge name in the tattoo industry. That’s really where she started and became a famous name but, since then she has branched out into makeup and even recording music. She

got her first tattoo at 14 years old and two years later, at age 16, she dropped out of school and began her career as a tattoo artist at Sin City Tattoo. She has also made a number of appearances on various tattoo tv shows like “LA Ink” and “Miami Ink” and wrote two books, “High Voltage Tattoo” and “The Tattoo Chronicles” (Source). Kat owns a shop in Hollywood, CA now called High Voltage Tattoo where she still tattoos and is the only female artist at her shop.

Chris Nuñez

Chris Nuñez is one of the well-known judges on the show “Ink Master”, a tattoo competition show. He got his start with art in general by doing street graffiti. Nuñez got

his first two tattoos at 16 years old of his parents’ names. Then at 18 years old, Nuñez

lost his dad. After that he turned his rebellious phase and graffiti art into something more productive and started tattooing in his early twenties (Source). While many people may know of him from being on “Ink Master” along with other tattoo tv shows, in the industry he best known for doing traditional Japanese style tattooing. Nuñez is currently tattooing at HCFL Tattoo in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Oliver Peck

Oliver Peck was also one of the judges on Ink Master until he got caught up in some controversy about his past and ultimately stepped down from the show. Aside from that, Peck is one of the most well-known tattoo artists in the industry. He is most well-known for specializing in American traditional style tattooing. Peck started abusing drugs at a very young age and ended up becoming an addict. He began tattooing at 17 years old

helping him find his way away from drug use. To help get the money for his tattoo equipment, Peck borrowed money from his friends that were still addicts and in turn would tattoo them. A tattoo artist named Stell saw potential in Peck even though before all of this he had no prior experience in the tattoo industry at all. He became Stell’s apprentice at his shop, Pair-O-Dice Tattoo. At one point, Peck held the world record for the most tattoos done in 24 hours when he did a total of 415 tattoos (Source). He used to own True Tattoo in Los Angeles, CA. Peck is currently tattooing out of Elm Street Tattoo that he co-owns in Dallas, TX.

These artists mentioned are only some of the most well-known and talented artists in the industry. While there are many other famous tattoo artists in the industry, these are just a few of my favorites.

Thank you to everyone who returned to read my second blog and I hope that all the new readers enjoyed this week’s blog! Next week’s blog will be all about the different artistic styles of tattoos.
